This project will include a studio CD album, a DVD of our filmed collaborations and interviews, and a live performance series. We are creating an interactive website for readers to explore their understanding of the novel by looking at modern themes. Through storytelling, interviews and new original music inspired by the issues and characters from The Grapes of Wrath,  this project aims to bring light to todays issues through exploring one of our greatest American novels.

Rob Halverson joined the National Steinbeck Center  to retrace the original Route 66 Highway Journey taken by the Joads in “The Grapes of Wrath”. Our original live music was performed at stops on this journey for audiences and a documentary crew.  Our “Post Depression Rag” is featured in this short:

Rob Halverson’s The Grapes of Wrath 75 Project  awakens the 75 year-old story and characters of this classic American novel.  John Steinbeck’s lens into the challenges of today’s world are explored through new original music and media.

Inspired by the character “Muley Graves” who stayed behind when the Joads were evicted from their land. It explores how technology can alienate a generation as it struggles to find balance within a fast moving modern world perspective.

Dispelled youth searching for an identity while facing rootlessness from society.

America’s coasts are bracing for a population exodus, the effects of a new modern relationship with nature.

The banking system created by our society has hobbled the ordinary worker. The collective consciousness of the American worker facing economic hardship in America.

An epic soundscape depicting the drama facing the men hiding from the deputies who are searching the Joad’s abandoned homestead. Relative to modern border crossers into the US.

There’s something about hindsight can make even the toughest times bearable. This song explores the joy of getting through a rough patch able to talk about it.
